We Are Hiring: Application Packaging Engineer

Apptimized is looking for a motivated individual to join the team as Application Packaging Engineer and grow within a structured, hands-on environment. This role is designed for those who want to build a strong foundation in application packaging while gaining practical experience on real-world projects.

The position begins with a paid 3-month study period, focused on core principles, tools, and best practices in application packaging. During this phase, candidates are supported by experienced team members and gradually prepared for project work.

After completing this stage, successful candidates transition into customer projects, becoming part of the packaging team and contributing to active delivery processes.

What the Role Involves

  • Application Packaging: Proficiently package software applications for enterprise deployment, following Apptimized’s best practices and quality standards. Adapt applications to meet the specific requirements of clients.
  • Packaging Expertise: Utilize specialized tools and common packaging technologies and formats (e.g., MSI, MSIX, App-V, IntuneWin, Winget) on different OS (Windows, MacOS) to package applications and software updates.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform thorough testing and validation of packaged applications to ensure compatibility with target environments. Identify and resolve packaging-related issues to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Deployment Expertise: Integration and distribution of software using common deployment systems (e.g., Intune, SCCM (MECM), etc.)
  • Documentation Excellence: Maintain clear documentation of packaging processes, configurations, and deployment procedures, contributing to the knowledge base.
  • Problem Solving: Apply strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve complex packaging challenges. Investigate and find solutions for issues related to software deployment and compatibility.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with industry trends and packaging technologies, and suggest improvements to enhance our products and services.
  • Additional Activities: Engage in various additional activities, which may include participation in projects, delivering presentations, providing education, and mentoring to team members, and conducting training sessions. These activities contribute to the overall growth and development of the team and organization.

Required Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related recognized qualification in an IT profession.
  • Proficiency with Windows operating systems. Understanding of Windows file systems and basic knowledge of the Windows registry. Familiarity with Windows services and device drivers. Basic knowledge of User Access Management, and Windows firewalls.
  • Basic understanding of programming concepts (OOP, control flows, parametrization etc.)
  • Intermediate level of English (minimum B1, but B2 or higher will be preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • High level of proactivity and being capable of managing escalations.
  • Genuine interest in learning and growing in application packaging, with a proactive approach to developing new skills.

Preferred Skills

In addition to the required skills, the following skills and experience are preferred for the Application Packaging Engineer role, as they contribute to a candidate’s effectiveness in the position:

  • IT Industry Background: Previous employment or internships within the IT industry. Experience working on IT projects, whether as a team member or in a leadership role, is a plus;
  • IT-related Areas: Experience in IT-related areas such as Server operating systems, Network technologies, and Virtualization;
  • Linux or macOS Proficiency: Proficiency in Linux or macOS is an advantage, as it helps you understand different operating environments;
  • PowerShell Scripting:Experience with PowerShell is highly desirable, as it is a core part of the application packaging process;
  • Proficiency in Scripting Languages: Experience with scripting languages such as VBScript is preferred. Experience with .NET framework, C#, or JavaScript is an advantage;
  • German Language Skills: Proficiency in German is highly appreciated;
  • Client-Facing Experience: Experience in roles involving direct client interaction (e.g., sales, account management, consulting) is an advantage;
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in Microsoft technologies, virtualization platforms, scripting, or related areas are highly appreciated.
